New safer speed limit for Saxtead
A new 40 MPH speed limit has been introduced along Saxtead Green on the A1120 to make the road safer for residents and reduce speeding traffic

The scheme is the result of several years of collaboration between Saxtead Parish Council, local residents, and County Councillor Stephen Burroughes, whose Framlingham Division includes Saxtead.

The speed reduction lowers the limit from the national 60 MPH to 40 MPH, addressing long-standing concerns from residents about traffic safety.

Commenting on the scheme, Cllr Burroughes said:

“The request for a reduced speed limit through Saxtead came from residents who felt unsafe due to increasing traffic speeds, a growing problem on rural roads today. With support from Suffolk Highways and agreement from the Police, we were finally able to get the green light for this work.”

He added:

“With rising traffic volumes, including construction-related vehicles, it is more important than ever to keep our roads safe and make it clear that speeding will not be tolerated. The police also need to ensure effective enforcement against speeding vehicles.”

Former Chairman of Saxtead Parish Council, George Cullingford, said:

“Several years ago, the Parish Council raised concerns about dangerous speeding traffic through the village. It became clear that something needed to be done to improve safety along the A1120. My thanks go to all the councillors who helped achieve this solution, and special thanks to Stephen Burroughes for insisting that a traffic calming scheme be put in place for Saxtead.”
