Devolution update
Suffolk should be fast tracked for devolution and local government reorganisation, councillors have decided

Suffolk County Council held an extraordinary meeting on 9th January 2025 of councillors, and a meeting of its Cabinet, to debate and then decide on whether or not to put Suffolk forward for the government's new devolution and reorganisation programme. 

The Suffolk County Council's Cabinet today agreed to recommend Suffolk for inclusion in the government's Devolution Priority Programme (DPP), which would see the creation of a directly elected Mayor (likely covering Suffolk and Norfolk) and the replacement of existing council structures with a streamlined unitary council being set up.
